Kiri-e
Kiri-e
The art of Japanese paper cutting. It is defined as “Kiri”=cut, “e”=picture/art. Each piece is hand drawn then delicately cut with different sized razors. After each piece is cut, Japanese Chiyogami paper - Washi paper that has been hand stenciled or screen printed with traditional Japanese imagery and patterns - is used as an underlay to reveal the exposed voids.
